This cold weather has got me pining for a white-sand beach and scanning through Instagram pictures of warmer locales like Bondi Beach and Byron Bay enviously (can you tell I want to visit Australia?). It also has me dreaming about my trip to Antigua I’ll be taking in February and of what I should pack.
With the massive success of the blog A Bikini A Day and the sensational frenzy over swimwear line Triangl Swimwear, bikinis are becoming a major fashion staple (yes even in Canada!), not just a practical thing to throw on for a trip to the pool. Designers are getting more and more creative with their swimwear lines, and I can’t get enough.
Crochet, lace and even leather are all becoming increasingly acceptable materials for swimsuits, which I think is so awesome and freeing! The styles, colours, designs, fabrics and the sheer CHOICE of it all just keeps growing and multiplying – much to my student budget’s dismay.
I went bikini shopping today for a Tuesday-pick-me-up and to prepare for my vaca (so what if it’s still almost a month away? A girl has to be prepared). There are so many cute and stylish bikinis out there but sadly, I had to settle for just one today. So instead of buying the ones that got away, I’ll blog about them! Check out a few of the swimsuits on my list this winter.

This one-piece from Beach Stuff Shop epitomizes old-school simplicity. It reminds me a bit of the 80s, which looked like such a fun and carefree decade. I like this one because it looks like it would let you wear it, not the other way around. White is also great for highlighting a tan!

This triangle bikini top from Free People also has a certain old-school charm to it – but in this case the era is the 70s, not the 80s. I’m so in love with the bohemian look and this top would definitely fit in at a hippie gathering by the water or in a lush forest somewhere! All I’d be missing is a floral crown and I’d be set. I would pair this one with distressed jean shorts and a bunch of long necklaces.

This is the bikini I bought today at Pink, except I bought the pink and orange version with black bottoms. I think the fold at the top makes it so interesting because it’s not just the regular bandeau or triangle style. The colours are also really bright and fun – perfect for a pool party!

If the other suits were old-school, then this one is all new-school! The idea of a leather bikini is so genius, I don’t know why no one thought of it before Triangl! It’s basically revolutionary. This one is definitely a must-have for the all-black-all-the-time city slicker.

This one is definitely my favourite! I’m obsessed with all things Wildfox and I think this bikini is just too cute for words. I love the idea of putting words or graphics on the butt of the bikini bottoms because it’s so cheeky and just so Wildfox. Also, when you lift up the flowy part on the top, there are two white hearts underneath! I think little details like that are what make Wildfox so fun and different.
Which bikini is your favourite? Let me know in the comments!
