I’m so glad Mother’s Day was invented as a holiday because moms everywhere deserve to be appreciated and celebrated. It’s crazy how much our moms do for us and how little they’re rewarded for it, which is why I think it’s super important that we take at least one day out of the year to tell them how grateful we are.
Personally, I know how often I take my mom for granted. My mom is my therapist, my nurse when I’m sick, my maid, my chauffeur, my chef and most importantly, my friend, yet I rarely stop to think about how lucky I am to have her. It’s funny how we tend to under-appreciate those who do the most for us.
Not only should we just tell our moms how grateful we are for them, but we should show them as well. Actions speak louder than words (or fancy presents!) and I think the best way to show someone you love them is by spending time with them. As cynical as it sounds, you never know how little time you might have with someone until it’s too late.
My mom and I are always doing things together. We love going for lunches and going shopping, but there are so many other fun, creative and educational (I know, I’m a huge nerd!) things we could be doing together.
I love the idea of setting aside a day every now and then for some quality bonding time with mom. While going out to restaurants and the mall is great, it can also be fun to get creative and try something new.
Check out my list of 10 fun activities you can do with your mom, because we should all hang out with our moms as much as possible!
1. Make a craft
There’s no better way to bond with someone than by building something with them. Try making something like these cute little trinket dishes!
2. Go for a spa day
Unwind and pamper yourselves by getting a quick mani-pedi or taking an entire weekend off for massages, facials and mud baths!
3. Do a workout class
Kill two birds with one stone by getting fit and spending some quality time with your mom.
4. Cook or bake something
I think we could all learn a culinary secret or two from our moms! Try making something like this lovely strawberry naked cake.
5. Make a scrapbook
Document all the lovely memories you’ve made with your mom over the years by creating a scrapbook together. It’s actually such a therapeutic process!
6. Join a book club
Joining a book club together will give you and your mom tons to talk about!
7. Go to an art gallery or a museum
If you and your mom have an artsy side, visit your local art gallery to get your fill of culture for the day.
8. Go to high tea
Sit down for high tea with your mom for a classy, sophisticated afternoon activity.
9. Visit your local botanical gardens
Anything to do with gardens and flowers is super relaxing and enjoyable, so a visit to the botanical gardens would make for a lovely day!
10. Go to a wine tasting
Brush up on your epicurean knowledge by hitting up your local winery for a tasting – it’s such a fun and fancy way to spend a Saturday evening.
