Soul Sunday: Dancing in the rain

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetI’ve always found rain so calming and beautiful. The sound, smell and look of it sends me into a state of utter bliss and relaxation.

This weekend, it rained incessantly all over the city. It didn’t stop pouring down once – and I loved every minute of it.

I got ice cream, went for brunch, saw a movie, sat outside and most importantly, I danced in the rain. Frolicking in puddles and mud under the wet, grey skies got me thinking about how important it is to know how to make the most out of a less than ideal situation.

Instead of being upset over the weekend weather, I embraced it and took the good with the bad. I think this principle is really applicable to real life: we can either choose to wallow in the negative aspects of our lives or we can enjoy all the lovely things this world has to offer!

Sometimes I find myself dwelling on the things in life that are less than perfect instead of jumping for joy over how blessed I truly am. When I catch myself in this mindset, I try to snap myself out of it by making a list of all the things I’m grateful for or thinking of all the ways it could be worse. And trust me – it could always be worse!

It’s all about adjusting your perspective and realizing that any situation can be a good one if you put your mind to it. At the end of the day, there’s always a positive that comes with every negative, even if it doesn’t seem like it in the moment.

Whatever you’re going through, there’s always a reason to smile. Whether it’s the smallest thing like a magical rainy day or something huge like a super supportive team of family and friends at your side, every cloud is built with a silver lining.

So the next time your subway train is delayed, your big meeting went all wrong and it starts pouring rain on your new outfit, smile, shake it off and start dancing!
