Crystal shopping at the Rock Store

You know those places that immediately make you feel so calm and serene as soon as you walk in? You know, the type of place you could spend hours in without even noticing a minute go by?

Yesterday, I visited a place like this. The Rock Store made me feel so at home from the second I walked up its bright blue staircase.

But first, let me back up. I had been dying to visit the Rock Store ever since I first heard about it ages ago. I hadn’t heard much about it, just that it was a metaphysical shop specializing in crystals, which was enough for me!

I finally had a chance to visit it yesterday, and even before I stepped into the store, I completely fell in love with the streetscape it was part of on Markham Street (for you Torontonians, it’s right by Honest Ed’s!). The village-like row was lined with colourful, unique little shops and restaurants. It had such a cool atmosphere and I felt like I was in a whole different city. I couldn’t believe I had never been there before.

The Rock Store was painted in all different colours and it had such a welcoming, bright exterior, so I knew that browsing through it was going to be a cool experience.

When I walked in, I immediately felt happy and relaxed. Water features were bubbling and lovely, soothing music was playing through the speakers. Everywhere I looked there was a stunning crystal, piece of jewelry, tarot cards or a book with awesome cover art.

I ended up staying for a while just browsing through the rows of crystals and books and soaking up the atmosphere. One of the first crystals I saw was the Fairy Quartz, which is also known as Spirit Quartz and other ethereal names. As a lover of all things fairy, I was immediately attracted to its name and its shimmery, sparkly surface.

I initially wanted to go with one of the bigger crystals, but my bank account didn’t agree, so I went with a smaller necklace instead. It’s so beautiful and is adorned with a brown cloth chain so it looks super natural and earthy.

photo(33)While crystals are stunningly beautiful, they can also bring tons of amazing benefits to the user. Harmonizing the aura and the chakras are listed as just two of the many magical uses of Fairy Quartz. It’s also been said to help with lucid dreaming and astral travel when placed under the pillow.

There are plenty of other uses for Fairy Quartz, but I mostly just love its magical sparkliness and earthy look! Plus, I’ve heard that you don’t choose your crystals, your crystals choose you — and I was definitely drawn to this kind as soon as I walked in.

I also picked up a larger Clear Quartz crystal. I basically justified this purchase to myself by affirming that I’ll have this crystal in my home for the rest of my life, so it was an investment, really!

Plus, quartz has been used for protection and energy work for thousands of years, so it’ll definitely be a positive addition to my home. The stone has two beautiful points on one side and then descends down on the other side, creating a gorgeous, asymmetrical look.

I just love my new babies! I’m so happy I paid a visit to the Rock Store — I will most definitely be going back to grow my collection.

Do you know of any other cool metaphysical stores in Toronto or beyond? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to visit them!

  1. Thank you for this lovely post! I adore the Rock Store, it has such a serene and magical atmosphere. I’m taking their Crystal Awakenings course now, and loving it! I am looking forward to integrating what I’ve learned with my Tarot practice. Enjoy your new crystals! 🙂
