Soul Sunday: It’s the little things in life

Flower mandalaIt can be so easy to lose sight of the fact that life is simply a collection of moments. The essence of your life isn’t your past, your future, or even what you’re doing next weekend — it’s the thoughts you’re thinking, the song that’s playing in the background, or the flowers you’re smelling right now.

While it’s wonderful to accomplish things and find your life path, simple pleasures are really all we ever have. It’s not about the money you make or the fancy cars you drive — I truly believe that the best things in life are free!

A big part of practicing gratitude is finding the time to enjoy the little things. If you can stop to realize the beauty of the clouds or the lovely, healing energy of a tree, that’s half the battle towards achieving a fulfilled, happy life.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the big picture and beat yourself up for not being perfect, which is why living in the moment is so crucial. Just for five minutes this week, slow down, take a minute and think about something that lights up your soul.

It can be something as small as your evening cup of tea, a good book you’re reading, or the way your toenails look after a pedicure — it doesn’t matter! Just let it fill your soul with joy for the moment and ride the wave of that feeling. It’ll help you relax, unwind and gain a new, positive perspective on things.

Take Julie Andrews’ advice and simply remember your favourite things when you’re down! It’s such simple advice, but sometimes it’s all it takes to feel better.

Take a peek at my list of 10 small pleasures that light up my soul:

1. The sound of wind chimes in the breeze

2. Flowers in full bloom

3. A fresh cup of coffee in the morning

4. Shameless reality TV shows

5. Crystal jewelry

6. Pretty pictures on Pinterest

7. Ballet class

8. Big verandahs with rocking chairs

9. Crisp linen sheets

10. Thunderstorms
