Mermaids have always been known for having feminine, shapely bodies and long, healthy hair, which they flaunt at all costs. The whimsical creatures have been venerated for centuries because of their beauty, and it’s a well-known fact that they’re every sailor’s weakness.
While they don’t have legs, they always keep their midsections, upper bodies and fins in tip-top shape by sticking to healthy, all-natural habits. Mermaids also know how to stay cheerful and zenned out even when the biggest waves hit.
As a self-proclaimed mermaid with legs, I hold real mermaids in the highest regard. They always inspire me to stay active, healthy and relaxed by swimming, pampering myself and eating as healthy as possible (although, even mermaids love to munch on sweets from time to time!).
So how do they stay so gorgeous and vibrant?! In honour of mermaids and their laid-back lifestyle, I’ve rounded up my top five mermaid-inspired health and wellness tips. Check out the list below to see how you can stay as healthy as a sea creature every day:
1. Just keep swimming!
Swimming is one of the best exercises out there because it works your whole body at once and it’s not hard on your joints. Make like a mermaid and integrate swimming into your weekly workout routine!
2. Eat fish, crustaceans and seaweed often
Ever wonder why mermaids have such long, silky, shiny hair? Duh — it’s because of all the fish they eat! Fish is super high in proteins, vitamins and lots of other good stuff, so do your skin, your hair and yourself a favour by munching on some salmon and a seaweed salad tomorrow for lunch.
3. Take a breather
We humans tend to get worked up over the smallest details, while mermaids know that relaxing and reclining on a rock to brush their hair is just as crucial as anything else on their schedule. We all need downtime to chill out and relieve stress: make hanging out in nature (sans shellphone!) a non-negotiable part of your day and you might just run into one of your mermaid pals!
4. Salt water heals everything
I once saw a quote that said the cure for anything is salt water, sweat, tears or the sea. I couldn’t agree with it more! Mermaids live by this, and if you want to stay fit, healthy and calm at all times, you should too! Feeling down? Cry it out! Stressed out? Go have a sweat sesh! Salt water is just ~*magical*~.
5. Go with the flow
You won’t catch a mermaid dwelling over the smallest of mid-ocean storms. The gorgeous finned creatures know that to survive, you have to flow with each wave as it comes, which can be super helpful when you’re faced with a tough obstacle.
