There’s truly nothing better for the soul than a good ramble through nature. This Thanksgiving weekend I’m feeling so grateful to live nearby so much natural beauty like the conservation area in Halton Hills because it makes it so easy to get out and enjoy mother nature’s magic.
Today, we went hiking around Rattlesnake Point, and I made it my intention for the day to slow down, breathe, and really be mindful of my surroundings. I didn’t bring my cellphone along, and I’m so glad I took the time to disconnect and get back to nature.
In the 1980s the Japanese government introduced the concept of “Forest Bathing” as a new program to promote health and wellbeing, and I can definitely see the benefits of this intuitive practice. Not only does it get you out and moving in the fresh air, but it also pulls you away from the negative influences of screen time so you can reconnect with the energy of the earth.
Walking through the forest is calming for so many reasons. There are no phones, artificial noises or lights, and no concrete or man-made structures, plus you’re literally immersed in the rich oxygen and positive vibes the trees emit.
Forest bathing is so refreshing, plus you can use it as an opportunity to do a little walking meditation. Today, along with trying to be super attentive to all the sounds and sights around me, I would stop at each lookout to take in the view, feel the sun on my face, and watch the eagles gliding through the air (plus, I even got a few yoga poses in!).
A forest bathing session was exactly what I needed this weekend, and I’m feeling so grateful for the beauty of the earth, the fresh air, and the stunning colours of the fall foliage. What are you feeling grateful for this weekend? Let me know in the comments!
