For so long, I’ve felt like a loser because I don’t connect with people as easily as others might. But what I’m just learning now is that to connect with others, you might have to give a little bit more than feels comfortable. You might have to put yourself out there in a way that feels awkward in order to receive something back, and you might not always receive something back in the way you had imagined.
It’s hard to put yourself out there when you can’t predict the outcome, or you feel like others might not “get you.” But at the end of the day, if you’re not connecting with other souls, then what’s the point of any of this? Being introspective is really important and rewarding, but connecting with others is the real treat in my mind.
This brings me back to an idea that I’ve heard from so many different speakers and authors, which is if you want love, be love. If you want light, be light. If you want abundance, be abundance. You are your source. You will never find what you need from an outside source, and that’s a hard idea I’ve had to learn again and again (and am still learning).
Whatever you are seeking is inside of you, and once you discover that and send it out into the world, it will come back to you multiplied. If you feel like you are lacking in any way, simply go deep inside of yourself and find what it is you need, then send it out to others.
I think it’s key to have confidence in ourselves and realize that we have everything we need inside of ourselves. Once you realize this, you can tackle any obstacle that comes your way.
I’m trying to send love out into the world through my writing, yoga sessions, photos and my personal interactions. I know many other people do much more than this, but for now, this is enough for me. Below are three ways to spread more love every day:
1. Smile at people you normally wouldn’t. Your Starbucks barista? The subway driver? Your sales associate at the mall? Whoever it is, they are exactly like you and deserve to be treated as such. You are ultimately the accumulation of how you treat others, so you’ll want to give others the benefits you give your family and closest friends.
2. Tell your loved ones the obvious. It’s a given that we all love our friends and family, but do they really know it? It’s so important to tell each other how much we mean to each other because that’s all we’ll really have at the end of the day. Tell your sisters, brothers, friends, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc., how much you love them before it’s too late.
3. Keep the conversation going. There have been so many times when I’ve stayed silent, waiting for someone else to keep the conversation going when it’s been just as much my responsibility. While people might seem reserved, chances are that it will make them feel good for you to ask them questions and show your interest in what’s going on in their life.
What’s one thing you could do today to spread the light and love? Let me know in the comments below.
