It’s not always easy to see the positive aspects of a situation. Sometimes it seems as though negativity is permeating your reality, and the worst part is that the more you focus on it, the more it multiplies.
It’s so important to stay strong in the fight to stay positive, even if it means faking it until you make it. We should definitely honour our feelings as they come up instead of pushing them down, but sometimes, all it takes is a little extra effort to notice all the good in the world in order to receive more of it. After all, if we don’t recognize all the positives of our current reality, why would the universe give us more?
I’m the first person to admit that it can be easy to become addicted to negativity. I often find myself looking for things to complain about instead of enjoying the present moment because it feels like you’re accomplishing something. When we dwell on the negative parts of life, we contribute to our “story,” and if complaining has been a part of your narrative for as long as you remember, then suddenly trying to kick the habit can be tough!
As a reminder to myself and anyone else who feels like they’re addicted to negativity, here are three ways to seek out the beauty, love and positivity in the everyday:
1. Instead of focusing on the negatives of your surroundings, (bad lighting, bad smells, horrendous furniture) try to pick out three pleasant qualities of your atmosphere. Maybe the sun is shining in through the window, or you have a lovely plant on your desk. Whatever it is, let those simple things uplift your mood and raise your energy levels.
2. Try to remember that the people around you might be going through tough times. If someone is short with you, it’s not always a reflection of you or something you did wrong. A lot of the time, people have trouble coping with the struggles of life, and remembering this can help us see past their rude or coarse exterior into their soul, which is much lighter, sweeter, and more beautiful than their outward personality!
3. Place beauty right under your nose. In order to experience beauty, you might have to seek it out and place it somewhere obvious. Make your phone background an image that makes you feel happy, place beautiful images on your desk or by your bed, and fill your space wth lovely scents from candles, plants or room spray. Having beauty everywhere really does help to uplift your mood and put you in the right frame of mind!
