Everyone in the world is on a spiritual path, even those who aren’t aware of it. We’re all growing and progressing at different rates, and no one is better or worse than the other for having different experiences.
So while you might be interested in chakras, crystals, and meditation, your boyfriend or sister might not be–and that’s okay! It doesn’t make you weird or abnormal, but it doesn’t make you better than anyone, either.
If you’re anything like me, you’ve had an affinity for all things to do with magic, spirituality and self-development since you can remember, and you’re always looking for new ways to expand your horizons and grow into your divine self. I used to (and, admittedly, still do often!) feel embarrassed about my interests, but there’s no need to feel this way. We’re all ultimately striving for the same things in life, and just because someone else takes a different path than you, it doesn’t make yours wrong.
There are many theories that say that the reason why there’s been so much disease and mental illness in recent years is because we’ve lost our religious and spiritual habits as a society. I’m no expert, but to me, engaging in spiritual acts always makes me feel lighter, calmer, and more fulfilled. It makes me feel like there’s more to this life than meets the eye, and that there is a point to it all in the end.
Now before I go down the rabbit hole of writing about the meaning of life, this post did have a point. So for all of you spiritually-minded guys and gals, whether you’re just starting out on this path or are already on like, the 90th level of enlightenment (congrats!), here are my five ideas for expanding your consciousness and adding some spiritual fulfillment to your life:
1. Say a prayer. Maybe you’ve grown up in a religious household and prayer is already deeply ingrained in you as a habit, or maybe you come from an agnostic family and you’ve never said a prayer in your life. Either way, try creating your own, personalized prayer and saying it to any spiritual figure of your choice. You could pray to the fairies, the angels, your higher self, the universe–there are no limits. When I pray, I like it to feel more like an affirmation or an expression of gratitude for something. For example, you could say, “thank you for always providing me with abundance and prosperity.” You don’t even have to say anything, you could just think it, and see how it makes you feel.
2. Do yoga or meditate. The thing I love so much about yoga is not that it makes my butt burn or my arms toned (although those are great benefits of the practice!), I love it because it helps to expand your consciousness and connect with your inner universe, making life’s petty concerns feel just a little bit smaller and less important. Somewhere between the opening breath, sun salutations, and savasana, I always feel my perspective shift in a positive way and my mind stop racing just a little. If you don’t have time for a full class, try sitting somewhere quiet (preferably in nature) and just observing your breath. Slowly, the mental noise will begin to fall away, and you’ll begin to feel more connected to your source.
3. Research aspects of spirituality that interest you. If you’re spiritually minded, you probably have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge that keeps you watching documentaries, reading thought provoking books and articles, and taking courses. Feeling drawn to a certain spiritual tradition, practice, or even a place in the world most likely means that your higher self wants you to check it out, so think of the first thing that comes to mind when you’re looking for things to research. You never know, you just might learn the one lesson that changes things for you.
