How to Reset After the Holiday Season

We don’t realize how exhausting the holidays are until January hits and we’re dragging ourselves around trying to get back in the swing of things. Getting back to the routine is easier said than done, especially after a good few weeks of overindulging, partying and socializing.

I don’t know about you, but for my part, it’s January 3rd and I’m still feeling out of sorts from the holidays. Too many alcoholic drinks, sugary snacks, starchy sides and late nights can really take a toll on your body and state of mind, which is why it’s so important to detox after a long binge.

I’m so ready to reset and make January a fresh, clean month full of energy, fun and joyful opportunities. Read below for my favourite strategies for resetting and renewing after the holidays:

1. Drink lots of tea and lemon water. Fluids are so key for resetting your system! While our organs are pretty good at detoxing our systems for us, it can’t hurt to help flush things out even more by drinking warm lemon water and herbal teas like dandelion root tea (my personal fave). When I feel yucky after a binge, I love to make a big jug full of warm water, two dandelion root tea bags and tons of lemon juice squeezed in to sip on throughout the day.

2. Sweat! Even though you may not feel like it, getting some exercise after the holidays is so important. If you’re feeling lethargic, low-energy and gross, one of the easiest ways to get some more pep in your step is to go for a run, do some circuit training, or some high-energy yoga flow. You’ll get those endorphins humming in no time, and the sweat will regenerate your skin to make it glow.

3. Go for a walk in nature. If you’re not feeling an intense sweat sesh, then a walk in nature might be your best bet. Get your heart rate pumping, the blood flowing and your limbs moving, and I promise you’ll feel better afterwards! Plus, walking in nature is one of the best ways to silence the mind and practice mindfulness, so it’s really a win-win.

The important thing is to never feel guilty after overindulging. It happens to the best of us, and what would life be without a little naughtiness? Be kind to yourself and always listen to your body because it always knows what to do.

After all, it’s all about balance and looking at the bigger picture. Now that the holidays are over, I’m ready to kick it into high gear and get back into a steady health and wellness regime.
