How to Combat Twenty-Something Angst

In the immortal words of Blink 182, “nobody likes you when you’re 23.”

Every phase of life has its ups and downs. Being a kid is hard, getting older is hard, and navigating your way through your twenties is hard.

When your entire life is before you, it can feel like a ton of pressure. Figuring out who you are while laying the groundwork for an awesome career and solid relationships can be stressful, but sometimes the only thing to do is step back from it all, take a deep breath and remember that everything always works out in the end.

Think of a time when you felt completely stressed out and worried about something. Are you still worried about that thing now? Can you even remember what it was?

Our minds have a crazy way of making us think the entire world is ending if something doesn’t work out the way we thought it would. But isn’t this the fun part of life? How boring would life be if we mapped it all out within an inch of its life and it all went perfectly according to plan?

Life will surprise you, delight you and terrify you all at once. Instead of letting it get the best of us, why not retain a sense of humour about the whole thing?

In the end, nothing matters more than your happiness. In fact, I believe that when you can manage your own thoughts and feelings, you’ll spread positive vibes throughout the world and end up helping way more people than you ever thought possible, just by being yourself!

Sometimes I get so caught up in trying to create the perfect life for myself that I forget to live right now. It’s delusional to think you can fix anything by worrying, and once you know that in the core of your being, it becomes easier to step outside your bubble and realize that life is just a game we like to play.

So how do we combat twenty-something stress? The same way we combat any stress: remember that everything in your life is happening right on schedule.

“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” -Lao Tzu
